Job Title: Project Engineer
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Summary of Job
This is an engineering-track position, responsible for: leading a team in the design of buildings, including performing engineering design for components and connections, 3D finite element modeling of components, 3D modeling of structures; performing document preparation in both CAD and BIM environments; and managing project and project team to successful completion.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's in architectural, Civil, or Structural Engineering, Masters preferred, or equivalent work- and industry-related experience (as allowed under licensure by the state of Illinois).
- Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) in state of Illinois
- 7+ years of diverse project experience in the design of buildings with demonstrated professional growth
- Experience in precast prestressed concrete design a plus

- 3D finite element analysis
- diaphragm analysis and design

- current building and material codes
- commercially-available office software (Word, Excel, Adobe/Bluebeam, etc.)
- 3D modeling and drafting software such AutoCAD, Revit and Tekla or equivalent
- engineering software such as RAM suite, Risa, TEDDS, LEC Wall, etc. or equivalent;
- Demonstrated willingness to learn new engineering principles and stay abreast of code changes outside the office environment
- Inspires confidence internally and externally in knowledge of structures and work product
- Able to work long periods (multiple hours) of the day at a computer
- Able to visit job site and function in rough outdoor environment (cold, heat, humidity and inclement weather)
- Able to function for extended periods in a manufacturing plant exposed to cold, heat, humidity, and dust
- Possess an advanced understanding of precast plant issues including casting and bed rules
- Possess an advanced understanding of precast erection issues and temporary bracing requirements
- Possess an advanced understanding of bed and plant scheduling
Responsibilities
- Interface with internal and external clients
- Prepare ALL work in accordance with approved office processes, formats and standards
- Define tasks (both engineering and documents) required to analyze/design precast components and connections on multiple simple building projects, with minimal direction from senior engineering staff
- Work on assigned tasks and projects, with minimal direction from senior engineering staff, performing analysis and design of precast components and connections
- Work on assigned tasks and projects, with minimal direction of senior engineering staff, preparing required documents in CAD and BIM format
- Perform 3D finite element analysis and design with limited direction of senior engineering staff
- Proactively identify and raise concerns about structural issues and project scope
- Perform tasks accurately and on time with limited guidance, and proactively seek advice on tasks as needed
- Meet task and project deadlines, and adhere to budgeted hours
- Volunteers to work hours need to meet deadlines
- Volunteers to work additional hours to assist other (not assigned work) to meet deadlines
- When asked, works hours needed to meet deadlines

- Manager other staff members, including time and tasks as required, when assigned as a Task or Project Leader
- Participate in activities within and outside the office that increase personal engineering capabilities

- Participate in the development of in-house design templates, checklist and standards
- Participates in engineering team leadership
- Assist VP Engineering in reviewing/approving percentage complete of consultant's billings on projects
- Assist VP Engineering in allocating staff resources to satisfy project demands and schedules
- Assist VP Engineering in allocating staff resources to meet required utilization rates
- Monitor assigned project budgets for staff adherence
- Coach and mentor junior staff, as appropriate and as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
