Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Tenant-Rights Attorney to join our team. As a Tenant-Rights Attorney, you will represent individuals in housing-related disputes, including unlawful evictions, rent control violations, habitability issues, and other landlord-tenant matters. You will work closely with clients to ensure their rights are upheld and advocate for fair treatment in the rental market.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide legal counsel and representation to tenants in housing disputes, including eviction defense, lease negotiations, and tenant organizing.
Draft, review, and file legal documents, including motions, complaints, and responses.
Represent clients in court, mediation, and settlement negotiations.
Conduct legal research on tenant rights laws and housing regulations.
Educate clients about their legal rights and options in housing-related matters.
Collaborate with community organizations, housing advocates, and other stakeholders.
Stay up-to-date on local, state, and federal housing laws, policies, and regulations.
Maintain case files and ensure all documents and deadlines are properly managed.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Active member in good standing with the California State Bar (or applicable jurisdiction).
Minimum of 2 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on tenant rights, landlord-tenant law, or civil litigation.
Strong understanding of landlord-tenant laws, eviction procedures, rent control ordinances, and housing rights.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong negotiation and litigation skills.
Compassionate, client-centered approach with a passion for advocating for vulnerable communities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Bilingual skills (Spanish, Mandarin, or other languages) a plus.
